This year, as my Christian friends celebrate Easter, it is good to remember the Jews’ miraculous deliverance on that first Passover and of God’s divine leadership taking them from bondage to freedom.

God called the people to “pass over” the steps of preparing and packing and told them to move forward in faith toward their freedom immediately.

The message of the bitter herbs on Passover is to remind us that only through suffering do we come to appreciate God’s redemptive power.

Sharing our stories — both collective and personal — is the lifeblood of faith. When we tell how God’s hand has directed our lives, we remember His presence in our own lives.

The real value and true purpose of wealth was not to be found in acquiring it, but in using it for good in the world.

In the Exodus story, which we read every year on Passover, the Bible teaches us the power of a single act of kindness performed for someone in need.

It allows us to choose love instead.

In order to really learn and change we must first apply our hearts to instruction, mussar. We must be humble and open.

The message of the “spreading mold” of the Bible is to be unselfish with the blessings that God has given us.

Living in the Holy Land, I recognize that it comes with added responsibility because of God’s special providence.

Expressing the good about others expresses our humility. Speaking ill of others stems from arrogance.

We have a responsibility to use our God-given gift of speech to watch what we say and bring goodness to the world.
