Fellowship staff had the opportunity to work with the historic Aviv matzah factory in Bnei Brak this past week. We prepared a special shipment of matzah to be sent to Ukraine just in time for Passover.

Jewish communities in Ukraine are currently facing severe challenges, including power outages, water shortages, and damaged infrastructure caused by nationwide missile and drone strikes. Even synagogues have been impacted. This has left many in need as we approach the Passover season.

These special matzah shipments help bring dignity to Jewish families as they prepare to observe one of the most sacred Jewish holidays.

The Aviv matzah factory, owned by Matzot Aviv, was established in 1887 in the first neighbourhood of Tel Aviv. In the wake of the Industrial Revolution, it became the first matzah factory in Israel to be automated. The factory later moved to Bnei Brak in 1946 and underwent major upgrades in 1986. Today, it uses some of the most advanced machinery available to produce matzah, cookies, and other goods Jews need to observe Passover.

The factory also maintains its own Research and Development Department, dedicated to creating new and innovative Passover treats each year. Aviv matzah is available in a variety of flavours, including onion, garlic, rye, and even chocolate covered.

Fellowship volunteers arrived at the factory on the morning of January 26 to assist in preparing the shipment for Ukrainian communities. Staff helped package individual matzah boxes and load the shipments onto trucks. Once the matzah arrives, volunteers will distribute them across the country.

Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread; for seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Aviv, for in that month you came out of Egypt” (Exodus 23:15).
