She’s Not Alone
IFCJ Canada | August 22, 2024
“I heard my neighbour screaming.”
That’s 86-year-old Alla, who was suddenly woken up at 6:30am in the morning to sirens and yelling on October 7, 2023.
Her neighbour was outside and dangerously near a terrorist, as a first responder was trying to save her. Alla didn’t think twice and rushed outside to see what the screaming was about, and the first responder warned Alla to go back inside. But it was too late.
A different terrorist was now standing in front of Alla… they locked eyes. “I slowly continued walking back home. I still can’t believe that he didn’t kill me,” admits Alla.
Meanwhile, her 101-year-old husband Lev who is hard of hearing was hiding at home. The couple who have lived through World War II were traumatized by the violence of war, yet again.
It’s a miracle the couple survived. But their world has been changed forever after witnessing such horror. That’s why Fellowship volunteers stepped in to provide basic needs for this elderly couple. We can be one small light in the darkness and show survivors of October 7 that they are not alone.
