‘I Am So Grateful’ IFCJ Canada | August 7, 2025 (Photo: Mishel Amzaleg) Yaffa has had to face anti-Semitism her entire life. Her family first escaped Spain, and then Morocco, because of the harsh attitudes towards Jews. She heard stories growing up from her father of how the local synagogue in his town in Spain was set on fire and burned down. This tragedy was the last of many that convinced her father’s family to flee. And they escaped to live in Morocco. Morocco is where Yaffa’s parents met. Both of her parent’s families lived in a very tiny, remote village populated with just 20 Jewish families. The tiny town had barely any resources – no shops, no hospital, no schools. Life in Morocco was filled with tragedy as well. One day, Yaffa’s father had to make the trip to Casablanca to take Yaffa to the doctor for a bad eye infection, and Yaffa’s sister needed treatment as well. The doctor asked the father to leave both girls many nights for treatment. But when her father returned, he learned that his daughter had died, and Yaffa had lost her eye…no one told the family. Not long after the tragedy, the family fled to Israel. Today, after so many tragedies, Yaffa again is suffering because of the war on Israel. Hearing all the suffering of the victims and hostages makes her cry and pray for peace. But she tells us she still holds hope that there are good people in the world – all because of the kindness of IFCJ Canada. Yes, friends of IFCJ Canada like you provide Yaffa with basic needs of food and care. “Despite my challenges, I still encounter many good people. The people from IFCJ Canada are like angels to me – they help me so much, and I bless them every day.” Your gift today will provide basic needs and lifesaving help for God’s children, like Yaffa, in Israel, in Ukraine, and around the world.
