Adriano and Buna, are preparing to make aliyah (immigration) this December from Rio das Ostras, Brazil, along with their 3 children.

Life in Brazil has been difficult for the Jewish family, who long for a prosperous future in their biblical home land. “We work very hard all day but often struggle to make ends meet”, says Adriano. “We want to change our lives and ensure that our children will have a better life than what we can give them now.”

Family ties to Israel have long inspired this dream. Adriano’s mother has lived in Israel for the past 20 years, and his father made aliyah five years ago. “Over the last few years, the situation became very difficult for us,” Adriano shares. “Hearing about life in Israel from my parents made us believe this is the right step for our family.”

To support his family, Adriano works multiple jobs, including making pizzas at a local restaurant, painting houses, and taking on construction work when possible. Bruna works as a manicurist at a local beauty salon. Despite their efforts, obtaining the necessary documents and saving enough money for aliyah proved to be a major challenge.

That changed when the family connected with IFCJ Canada. “My cousin Odikerle, who made aliyah from Brazil in 2021 with the help of IFCJ Canada, suggested I reach out,” Adriano says. “Suddenly, we felt we had someone to talk to. The staff was incredibly supportive and helpful.” Thanks to IFCJ Canada and its generous supporters, the family will now be able to travel to Israel on a Fellowship Freedom Flight.

The Larrat family will settle in Kiryat Bialik, a suburb of Haifa, close to Adriano’s father and cousin. “They will help us settle in,” Bruna explains. “We’ve been talking to the children, and they are very excited to start our new lives in Israel. They’re looking forward to meeting their cousins in person and attending their new school.”

The family is also eager to immerse themselves in Israeli and Jewish life. “There is no real Jewish community where we live now, and we’ve never been to Israel,” Bruna adds. “We want our children to know the culture, be proud of their roots, and understand where they come from. We know we have a lot to learn—including Hebrew—but we’re ready to work hard.”

As they prepare for this new chapter, the Larrats are deeply grateful. “We will never forget the help we received from The Fellowship and how Israel is welcoming us with open arms,” Adriano says. “We truly feel that we are being given a second chance.”
