Project Spotlight: Flags of Fellowship at Banias Church

With two weeks remaining until this year’s Flags of Fellowship campaign, our Fellowship family in Israel is helping churches prepare to honour the victims and those affected by the October 7, 2023, attacks through a message of unity, faith, and hope. Last week, IFCJ Canada President Yael Eckstein joined a visit to Nazareth’s Banias Church for a Flags of Fellowship event. The event was covered by Newsmax and i24NEWS. 

Church volunteers and community members helped place 1,200 Israeli flags before Yael spoke about how Christian communities around the world are choosing to stand with the Jewish people. Other speakers included Israel’s Special Envoy to the Christian World, George Deek; Israeli Christian Aramaic Association President, Shadi Khaloul; and Israel365 President, Rabbi Tuly Weisz. Christians from Nazareth gathered at the church to pray, joined by the Armenian Christian Association’s children’s and youth choir, who led the congregation in singing the Lord’s Prayer. 

Since the first Flags of Fellowship in 2024, the initiative has grown into a powerful annual expression of solidarity and support. If this year’s goal of more than 2,500 participating locations is reached, a total of 3 million Israeli flags will have been planted, more than twice the number from last year. 

In the days leading up to October 7, churches, synagogues, universities, and businesses are invited to stand together in hope, remembrance, and solidarity with Israel and its people. 

“The Lord said, ‘If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them’” (Genesis 11:6).
