Israel is Mourning… IFCJ Canada | February 21, 2025 (Photo by Chaim Goldberg/Flash90) On February 20, 2025, people gathered at Hostage Square in Tel Aviv to honour the release of the bodies of four Israeli hostages, including Kfir, Ariel, and Oded, from Hamas captivity. As we commemorate the painful end to their captivity, we also recognize the grief of their families and of every hostage’s loved ones still waiting for their return. The square was filled with tears, but also with resilience—a symbol of Israel’s enduring hope, even in the face of unspeakable tragedy. This week, we also mark a somber milestone—500 days since an unimaginable tragedy struck the heart of Israel. For over a year and a half, Israel and her people have clung to hope and fervently prayed for the safe return of Kfir Bibas, Ariel Bibas, Shiri Bibas, and Oded Lifshitz. These innocent souls—two children, their mother, and a beloved grandfather—deserved nothing more than to be together, safe in their home, surrounded by family. Instead, their lives were tragically taken from us by terrorists. We remember them not as they should be—at home and happy—but as victims of senseless violence. This grief, is now etched in the hearts of all who knew and loved them. (Photo by Chaim Goldberg/Flash90) For the Bibas family, the Lifshitz family, and for all families of those taken. We support you, united in sorrow, and as a global community, we continue praying for peace and an end to this unimaginable violence. To all our Jewish brothers and sisters around the world, know that as your heart breaks, our heart breaks. You are not alone, and we support you as you support us in this time of unimaginable loss. To our Christian brothers and sisters, we thank you for your solidarity. Your prayers and support are felt, and together, we mourn for those lost and those still suffering. As we navigate this pain, we are united in a collective hope for peace and healing. This is why IFCJ Canada exists, to continue building bridges of understanding between our faiths through the strength of our community, united around our shared values—to bless Israel and her people.
