(Photo Credit: BAYT) In solidarity with the Israeli people, just one year after the October 7, 2023 massacre, IFCJ Canada and it’s global partners, launched the Flags of Fellowship campaign with nearly 250 churches, universities, schools and synagogues throughout Canada and the U.S.. 1,200 Israeli flags were displayed on each of their grounds to pray and remember each victim lost that day, and to highlight the unwavering unity of Christians in support of Israel and the Jewish people. IFCJ Canada proudly partnered with Rabbi N. Daniel Korobkin, mara d’asra (senior rabbi) of Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto Congregation, and an IFCJ Canada Board Member. Local activists also attended the synagogue’s event, The Canadian Jewish News reported: Since the start of the war, a number of grassroots groups in Toronto have been holding regular events to keep the plight of the hostages in the public eye. In Thornhill, Ont., Michelle Factor organized a weekly Sunday morning Run for Their Lives, one of an estimated 266 such events that happen worldwide. Usually, about 100 people turn up to walk or run one kilometre around the Promenade Mall, but on Oct.6, several hundred turned up to walk to the nearby Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto (BAYT) synagogue. There, participants placed 1,200 Israeli flags on the front lawn, in memory of those killed in Israel on Oct. 7. “Planting Israeli flags on October 6 and 7 serves multiple purposes. First and foremost, it shows our undying solidarity with Israel and her people. It also demonstrates that we will not be intimidated by the hateful anti-Semitism that has recently reared its ugly head in Canada. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, this project was initiated by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. Knowing that hundreds of thousands of Christians throughout North America support us and stand united with us in this fight against evil inspires and strengthens us. It is an honour to share in this project with so many kindred spirits who wish to be part of the blessing of Israel,” stated Rabbi Korobkin.
