Demand for Food Assistance in Israel Surges to 32% IFCJ Canada | September 11, 2026 Photo: Yonatan Sindel/Flash90 As Rosh Hashanah approaches this week, a survey has found that demand for food assistance in Israel has risen to 32% ahead of the holidays. The Jerusalem Post reports that various organizations, (including IFCJ Canada and it’s global affiliates), are responding to this crisis of poverty and food insecurity. The effort is expected to provide more than 30,000 food packages to families and elderly Israelis. Employees of participating companies are helping pack thousands of food packages to be delivered to families in need, while the companies themselves are donating and helping finance the food baskets. At the same time, other companies are using their online assets and digital platforms to raise donations from the public through collaborations with Shufersal, bit, Wolt, and other entities. The public can also donate directly toward the purchase of food packages for families in need. Alongside contributions from companies and the public, the aid campaign is supported by philanthropic foundations that help finance the initiative and expand the scope of assistance. Among them, the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews provides significant support for families during the holiday, alongside CBN, the Azrieli Foundation, and other partners helping Latet reach families and populations in need across the country. As Israel prepares for one of the holiest times on the Jewish calendar, Iran declared plans to announce a “prohibited zone” near the Strait of Hormuz. This marks a dangerous escalation, as commercial vessels carrying essentials have been the primary target if this conflict, potentially creating further strain on Israel’s food supply. IFCJ Canada is actively responding and praying for the families and elderly—including including Holocaust survivors, who are being impacted by the shortages of food, and the ongoing conflict. As we approach the High Holy Days, you can help provide lifesaving care to those who need it most. Help ensure they can observe this holy season with dignity, hope, and the essentials they need to survive.
