Surviving a Near-Deadly Fall

“In a split second, her life was changed forever as she plummeted from her window, smashing into the pavement five floors below.”

Just 10 years ago, Yulia was in perfect health. She was studying at university, had tons of friends, and a bright future ahead of her.

Then one lazy summer day, everything changed everything. Yulia, now 36, didn’t feel well. She opened the window in her room, seeking some fresh air. She leaned forward, to catch the breeze and in a split second, her life was changed forever as she plummeted from her window, smashing into the pavement five floors below.

Miraculously, Yulia survived; however, she sustained a head injury, which left her unable to move or speak. Yulia lost her memory, as well as most of her friends.

However, Yulia refused to give up hope and began writing a new chapter of her life. Yulia's journey toward recovery is as miraculous as her survival. After a decade of brutally difficult practice, not only can Yulia can once again talk and walk, she has gone on to display her abilities, rather than her disabilities. Her wall is covered with awards she received in dance competitions for people with disabilities. Despite these accomplishments, Yulia still needs help, but the medical professionals and rehabilitation programs she requires do not exist in Russia.

Still unable to live on her own, Yulia shares an apartment with her 58-year-old mother, Bella. Bella divides her time and her heart between her daughter and her elderly mother, whom visits daily.

Bella’s wish is to take her beloved Yulia to Israel, where she can receive proper medical attention. As Bella talks about her daughter, tears pour down her face. Yulia also looks sad, but hopeful.

This hope is thanks to you, in providing food cards and medicine, which help Yulia survive. A youthful smile spreads across Yulia’s face as she thinks about how much she has overcome and how strong she still is.
