Sending a Message of Love and Support to Ukraine’s Needy Jews

During my trips to Ukraine this year to send a message of support and solidarity to the Jewish community, I was struck by the great needs there. The Jewish orphanages and community centers are perilously close to the areas of civil unrest that has been plaguing the city for months.

While I was heartened on these trips by the many ways The Fellowship has been able to help, I was also deeply troubled by the worsening situation. Food costs in Ukraine are skyrocketing. The cost of medicine is up 70 percent. Those who were already struggling to survive are now in real peril, and there is also a very real, very frightening sense of anti-Semitic hatred and danger.

Now, nearly everyone speaks about the approaching winter. It gets bitterly cold in Ukraine, but will those who have been unable to escape the region be able to afford gas to heat their homes? Will there even be any gas available? These people are already barely surviving; they cannot afford the extra costs of staying warm this winter.

Thanks to the generosity of friends like you, The Fellowship has helped with food needs, mainly for the homebound elderly and children in orphanages. But the situation is desperate – and promises to grow even worse – and we need to do more.

Today, I hope you will prayerfully consider becoming a monthly supporter of The Fellowship. With your support, we can provide much needed food, medical help, and heating supplements to those in dire need – and send them the message that there are Canadians standing with them, now and throughout the year.

This aid means so much to them in this time of crisis. Please become a Friend of The Fellowship monthly donor today.
