Olga is Praying for Relief

While Olga has survived many hardships in her life, nothing compares to the hunger and loneliness she feels today…

With no father to provide for her, Olga, now 59, had a difficult childhood. She was always hungry and contracted polio, which left her paralyzed.

In the 1970s, while undergoing treatment in Moscow, Olga met a group of Jews who were secretly studying Hebrew. Over the protests of her mother, who was understandably scared that her daughter would be arrested or worse, Olga joined them.

When Jewish life was revived following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Olga remembered the Hebrew lessons of her youth. She was one of the first visitors to the newly opened Hesed organization, a centre that supports the Jewish community by hosting Jewish holiday celebrations and feeding the elderly. “Hesed is like a second home to me,” says Olga.

Since her mother passed away in 2012, Olga now completely relies on Hesed and The Fellowship. She feels so blessed by family of monthly donors, our Friends of The Fellowship, who provide her with year-round support.

The Fellowship is a very important organization,” Olga says. “They allow me to eat a daily warm meal at the Hesed centre, and they provide me with homecare, cleaning services, and personal care products. Thank you!”

Join our monthly giving family today as a Friend of The Fellowship, and help more elderly like Olga who have no one else to rely on.
