You Saved Her

Nina remembers when World War II arrived. Nina was just seven years old and lived with her Jewish family in Russia. Even though she’s now 91 years old, she still can recall the frightening feeling of bombs falling very close to her and the sounds of explosions all around the city.

Immediately, she escaped the city with her parents. Her mother, her younger brother, and Nina all hid in the forest, but her father went to fight on the frontlines. She says it’s hard to believe they survived. “I remember great hunger,” Nina says. “A constant feeling of hunger. I suffered a lot from frostbite because there were no warm clothes. Somehow, we managed to survive.”

Years after the war, in the early 1990s, Nina had the chance to make aliyah (immigrate to Israel). Today, she lives in southern Israel. But with no family left to care for her, she must manage all alone. She lives in a small apartment that is barely furnished except for an old sofa and bed.

‘This Really Saved Me’

Thankfully, she’s able to survive again thanks to IFCJ Canada. Now when she opens her refrigerator it’s filled with food from faithful friends. When war began in Israel, she survived thanks to home delivered meals provided by Fellowship volunteers and friends around the world.

“For the past months there has been a war, and there have been many rockets that have fallen in Ashdod. Even while all the supermarkets in the city were closed, I continued to receive prepared meal packages from The Fellowship. This really saved me. Thanks to the assistance I receive from The Fellowship, I will be able to live many more years.”

Especially as Passover begins, you help precious elderly and Holocaust survivors like Nina survive. And you can help them live out their faith with dignity, not only in Israel, but around the world.
