You Are Keeping Her Alive

87-year-old Victoria lives in isolation in Netivot, a town near the Gaza strip. Because of this, the Fellowship’s assistance is critical to her well-being. “Since the start of the war, there has been non-stop rocket fire, I lock myself in my home. I don’t go out.” She says. Victoria has spent the last week fearing terrorist attacks and constantly lamenting and praying for those who have been murdered or kidnapped.

Victoria is dependent on the assistance and food IFCJ Canada regularly provides her. Fellowship volunteers called Victoria to see about her well-being during the initial days of the Hamas attack, as the conflict made it difficult to reach her. “The meals I received from The Fellowship will be enough for me for the coming week. You keep me alive with your assistance in times of emergency.”

After making aliyah (immigration to Israel) during the 1950’s, Victoria married her beloved, late husband who was a Holocaust survivor. Living alone for the past 4 years since his passing, Victoria remembers the stories of war and the atrocities her husband shared with her. “I never imaged that the shocking murders that happened at the time of the Holocaust, could also happen here in Israel.”

The emergency visits from IFCJ Canada’s volunteers to deliver food is critical for her survival. “You keep me alive!” she tells us. “I want to say that I am incredibly grateful for the support of The Fellowship during this time. When everyone disappeared, you stayed in the field and continued to support me. Thank you.”
