‘You Are My Guardian Angel’

“You are my guardian angel.” That’s what 80-year-old Raya said during a recent visit from a Fellowship member. This Holocaust survivor has come to depend on help from Fellowship friends—help that has been truly lifesaving.

After surviving WWII as a small child, Raya made aliyah (immigration to Israel) with her family. Her daughter died in childbirth, so Raya cared for and raised the girl as her own. But now, widowed and often alone in her small apartment in the southern Israeli town of Sderot, Raya is the one in need of care.

Battling cancer, as well as other health problems that have come with age, Raya could no longer muster the strength to wash her clothes by hand. So IFCJ Canada provided her with a washing machine. Regular food box deliveries and help with groceries also provide strength—both physical and emotional.

But the highlight of any day for Raya is a visit from Fellowship volunteers—as well as the children from a Fellowship-supported kindergarten nearby—who bring light and hope to the life of this woman in need of a guardian angel.

Your prayers and support are hope-giving and lifesaving for the neediest of God’s children, many of them Holocaust survivors like Raya.
