Irina and her husband lived hard lives as Jews under Soviet rule, but they remained faithful, raising their sons in the Jewish tradition. But life in their native Ukraine hasn’t gotten easier.

One son, who had even gone to Israel and studied in a yeshiva there, was stricken down by a devastating illness. And Irina’s other adult son is both physically and emotionally disabled, so all of the couple’s time and money goes to his care.

Not that they have much. The family lives in a small concrete dwelling that is old and barely a home at all. It doesn’t even have heat for the brutal Ukrainian winters they face.

Even before the ongoing war in Ukraine, Irina and her husband had no way to get to the nearest synagogue—to worship or for help with basic necessities. And since the war began, finding food and hope has become even more difficult.

But thanks to IFCJ Canada, this Jewish family has now found help and hope in a warzone. Regular food boxes are now being delivered… such a small thing for many of us, but a truly lifesaving blessing for Irina and her family—“I don’t know what we would have done without this help from The Fellowship.”
