IFCJ Canada Board Member Travels on Freedom Flight with Olim

“I am honoured to be joining these brave men, women and children who are escaping increasingly difficult conditions for Ukraine’s Jewish community and starting their lives anew in their Jewish homeland.” - Stockwell Day

Last week, the latest Fellowship Freedom Flight brought 200 Ukrainian Jews out of their war-torn country to their historic and biblical home in the Holy Land. Jewocity reports on Stockwell Day, the respected Canadian political figure and Fellowship board member, who accompanied these new olim (immigrants) on their journey:

Hon. Stockwell Day shepherded some 220 Jews in need from strife-torn eastern Ukraine to Israel last week, with the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews of Canada (The Fellowship).

Day, 66, of Vancouver, appears regularly as a well-known national TV political commentator, and has also spoken on a range of international broadcast networks. Day gathered with the immigrants as they boarded two flights from Kiev Wednesday, Sept. 28, bound for Tel Aviv to begin their new lives in Israel, thanks to support from The Fellowship’s partners in Canada.

“I am honoured to be joining these brave men, women and children who are escaping increasingly difficult conditions for Ukraine’s Jewish community and starting their lives anew in their Jewish homeland,” Day said before boarding a Tel Aviv-bound flight from Kiev with his wife, Valorie. “What an incredible mitzvah (blessing) to be witnessing this modern-day exodus to freedom.”

The flights are just the latest in The Fellowship’s ongoing campaign to help Jews in Ukraine and other communities around the world facing economic challenges, anti-Semitism and security fears. Before these latest flights, The Fellowship has brought 3,532 Jews on 29 flights from Ukraine to Israel.

Day, who was elected nine times over 25 years to two levels of Canada’s government in two separate provinces, is also the board chair of IFCJ Canada.

While in Ukraine, Day and his wife represented The Fellowship’s president and founder, Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, at a special memorial symposium marking the 75th anniversary of the infamous Babi Yar Massacre. This included paying homage at the actual site where more than 33,000 Jews were murdered over a two-day period in September of 1941. Joining the Days in Ukraine was The Fellowship’s senior vice president, Yael Eckstein.

When you support The Fellowship’s On Wings of Eagles ministry, your gift helps fulfill biblical prophecy, as foretold in the book of Isaiah: “I will beckon to the Gentiles…they will bring your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their shoulders” (Isaiah 49:22).

Please help provide aliyah to those who seek to escape on a Freedom Flight. Please give to On Wings of Eagles today.
