IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE HOW MANY NEED OUR HELP.
Please donate today to help us reach them tomorrow!

Lisa Popova

Every time an elderly Jewish person clutches my hand; every time I listen to a Holocaust survivor’s story; every time we deliver a hand-prepared meal to a widow—I thank God that your friendship makes this possible.

Last month alone, you’ve helped put meals on thousands of tables in Israel and the former Soviet Union. You’ve provided urgently-needed medicine and other essentials of life. Please help us meet our goals during this special month.

Lisa Popova is one who says “I am grateful” for what you have done for her.

Although she lives in conditions that most Canadians would find unimaginable, she feels blessed knowing there are friends like you praying for her and giving what you can to help her.

Lisa is an elderly Jewish woman who lives in a poor neighbourhood in Kyrgyzstann. She moved in over 60 years ago, with her parents and brother. Now 72, Lisa is the only one left. Her home is a small, ancient house with no toilet or shower and she can’t afford to heat her home. But you will hardly ever hear Lisa grumble. “When it’s cold, I just put on an extra sweater,” she says. When she needs to bathe, she commutes to her niece’s house.

Two years ago, Lisa retired from her job delivering mail. Since then, she has experienced a number of health issues. She receives a small government pension of $147 a month, which is not enough to pay for basic needs, let alone her medical care. Thankfully, The Fellowship helps fill the gap through a bankcard that allows Lisa to purchase food. And helps her to receive medicine, medical care, heat, and other basic human necessities.

“I’m grateful for everything I receive,” Lisa says.

We rarely speak of how much we need to raise just to meet the very basic needs. We don’t often speak of how many others we don’t reach.

You’ve helped so many people survive. But it’s not just the physical aid that makes your support special, it’s the love that comes with it, that we extend on your behalf to suffering individuals like Lisa.

God intended for us to live in community, and that community has dwindled for many elderly people, especially Holocaust survivors, leaving them alone.

The Psalmist tell us to “give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind, for He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things” (107:8-9). You are spreading the love of God to His people and reminding them that no matter what they face, they are not alone. This is something to thank God for!

This December, as you gather with friends or family, as you thank God for the goodness of the year, know that I am thanking Him for you! Thank you for being God’s messenger of light and love and for being my friend and partner in this ministry of compassion.
