United in Our Suffering

“In Israel, we know that pain that Paris feels all too well. Just as families in Paris were torn apart by cruel terror, so do we experience this tragedy numerous times every year.” – Yonit Rothchild, The Fellowship staff member in Jerusalem

On the heels of the terror attacks in Paris last weekend, Yonit Rothchild, who’s on staff with The Fellowship in Jerusalem, shared these sobering but inspiring thoughts.

Like many across the world, we in Israel are heartbroken over the horrendous events that occurred in Paris last weekend. As our Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, so eloquently put it: “An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us.”

In Israel, we know that pain that Paris feels all too well. Just as families in Paris were torn apart by cruel terror, so do we experience this tragedy numerous times every year. Just as terrorists struck fear into the hearts of civilians in Paris, so have Israelis been living with the fear that terror can strike at any moment for decades.

Israel unwaveringly supports France’s war on terror, because it’s the very same war that we are fighting. In fact, we sit on the front lines.

It will only be when all countries who cherish liberty, equality, and fraternity stand together as allies, that we will be able to defeat the terror that threatens our world. I pray that instead of condemning Israel, the world stands with Israel as we fight together for our common cause.
