“I know exactly what I’m going to buy,” 12-year-old Tamar exclaimed when she received a clothing card from The Fellowship just before the recent Rosh Hashanah holiday. “I have an old pair of sandals that fell apart. We tried to glue them together, but that didn’t work.”

For her first eight years, Tamar’s life was a lot like those sandals – falling apart despite her best efforts.

Her father abandoned the family when Tamar was just 2. Her older brothers, who were from her mother’s previous marriage, were much older and a bad influence. One became a drug addict, and the other has been imprisoned several times. Tamar’s mother suffers from mental problems that finally prevented her from taking care of Tamar.

When the local welfare office became afraid for Tamar and decided it was unsafe for her to live at home, they placed her in Fellowship-supported Neve Michael Children’s Village. She was just 8 at the time. There she has received a stable environment and loving upbringing and has blossomed into a happy girl. She is doing great in school and has many friends.

Her newfound happiness increased when she received that Rosh Hashanah clothing card from The Fellowship, which will allow her a rare shopping trip to buy new clothes. After replacing her old, broken sandals with “the prettiest ones I can find,” Tamar explained, “Then I’m going to buy a pretty blouse and sweater. I’m going to feel so good on Rosh Hashanah. Thank you for caring about us!”

We were able to provide this needed loving-kindness because of generous Fellowship friends like you. But there are many others like Tamar, who need our help not just during the Jewish holidays but throughout the year as well.
