Oksena—Finding Freedom in the Holy Land

The hatred she felt from her neighbours and schoolmates inspired a desire to escape her hometown

Seventeen-year-old Oksena was born in the small Ukrainian town of Skvira which, prior to World War II, was home to a large Jewish community. Then tragically during the war, most of the Jews in Skvira were executed and the Jews who survived lived in severe poverty and continuous fear of persecution from their neighbors, who supported the Nazis’ aim of eradicating the Jewish people.

Being part of one of the few Jewish families who remained in Skvira was difficult for Oksena, who was terrorized simply for being Jewish. The hatred she felt from her neighbours and schoolmates inspired a desire to escape her hometown and to move to the one place where she knew she would never be shamed for being Jewish: Israel.

Earlier this year, because of caring partners like you, The Fellowship fulfilled Oksena’s life-long dream and brought her home to Israel on a “Freedom Flight” through On Wings of Eagles.

Oksena is extremely grateful and has adapted very well to her new home in Israel; however, she greatly misses her parents and older sister. Given the recent turmoil in Ukraine, Oksena hopes to be reunited with her family very soon.

When you give to On Wings of Eagles you can ensure that people who are facing persecution and poverty, like Oksena, have a helping hand. Please prayerfully consider how you can help with a “Freedom Flight” today.
