Ira: A young girl finds hope in the Holy Land
At age 9, she overheard her schoolteacher making anti-Semitic comments
As a child in the Ukraine, Ira never knew she was Jewish. Then one day, at age 9, she overheard her schoolteacher making anti-Semitic comments. When she told her mother about them, her mother told her the truth: she was Jewish. From that moment on, Ira dreamed of coming to Israel.
But there was something else Ira did not know—her mother had cancer. Unable to work, and forced to choose between buying medicine and food, Ira’s mother put her family’s needs before her own. After a painful and extended struggle with the illness, she died.
Ira’s father decided to do whatever he could to enable Ira to live in Israel. The opportunity came from The Fellowship’s On Wings of Eagles program, which paid for Ira’s aliyah (immigration) and klitah (resettlement) costs in Israel.
We cannot do this lifesaving work without your help. Thanks to donors like you who support this lifesaving program, Ira, lives in Israel where she is learning about her Jewish heritage. She loves her teachers and her local adoptive family, whom she visits every other Saturday for Shabbat (Sabbath) dinner.
Your gift to On Wings of Eagles can help a young immigrant like Ira find new life in the Holy Land. Please give today to help secure Israel’s future—one person at a time.
