As Venezuela’s economy collapses, communities and entire cities have been plunged into upheaval and are experiencing severe distress. It is a national catastrophe. The crisis has been devastating to the country’s Jewish community, particularly families and the elderly.
Grocery stores and pharmacies have been picked clean by desperate citizens, and food and essential medicines are next to impossible to find. A mother of three young children said upon her family’s recent arrival from Caracas, “It was hard to find basic things like bread and flour. I was afraid to leave the house due to the riots, and for fear of being kidnapped for ransom. Jews are attractive targets for the kidnappers.”
The Fellowship is racing against time to aid Venezuela’s suffering Jews. We must do all we can to help them. We must stand together and proclaim – “We will not stand idly by!”
