Escaping War to Save Your Family
“It's where I met my wife. It's where all of my ancestors are buried. But I just know that Israel is the right place to be.” Yakiv, a Ukrainian refugee, shares his harrowing story.
When the war in Ukraine began, Yakiv and his wife, Iryna, had to leave the only city they'd ever called home.
“Our children lost their jobs,” Yakiv explained. “My oldest son was severely beaten when the fighting began on the Donetsk streets. It was simply a period of chaos. It became normal to hear gunfire while walking on a main street.”
With the nonstop shelling and faltering economy Yakiv knew for his family to be safe, they had to leave immediately.
“It's very difficult leaving the place where I was born,” says Yakiv. “This is where I worked my entire life. It's where I met my wife. It's where our children were born. It's where all of my ancestors are buried. But I just know that Israel is the right place to be.”
Now, with thanks to our caring donors, Yakiv and his family are living safely in Israel and plan to visit all of the historic and biblical sites. They feel blessed to have received help from The Fellowship.
