Elderly Woman Needs Lifesaving Surgery

Maria, 77, has survived heart attacks and constant pain in her joints. A recent x-ray showed that there is a cyst filled with blood on Maria’s spine, which urgently needs to be removed…

30 years ago, Maria, now 77 years old, lost some of the most important people in her life. First, her father died, leaving her to care for her sick mother. And, shortly after, her husband abruptly left her and her teenage son. During this time, her mother, Svetlana, needed cardiac surgery, and the doctors inserted a pacemaker. So all of Maria’s time and energy went to raising her son and caring for her mother’s health.

Svetlana recently turned 99 years old, and her surgeons just changed her 11th pacemaker. Last year, she fell and broke her hip and now can only move around the apartment with a walker. Additionally, Svetlana is also almost deaf and blind and she does not deal with her illness in a healthy way. She is constantly angry at Maria, making the home atmosphere uncomfortable. Svetlana often feels dizzy, fatigued, lethargic, and has memory loss and confusion.

Maria continues to care for her mother, providing her with round-the-clock care. While her mother’s illness and mental state are difficult to deal with, Maria mostly feels sad because a few years ago, Maria lost her son, Vologda, at the age of 55. Soon after, her own health began failing.

A few years ago she underwent surgery to remove a malignant tumor in her breast. She also suffers from hypertension, heart attacks, and constant pain in her joints. A recent x-ray showed that there is a cyst filled with blood on Maria’s spine, which urgently needs to be removed.

Maria knew she wouldn’t be able to have the surgery unless someone could care for her mother during her recovery time. Thankfully, through friends, Maria learned about the charitable organization Chamah, supported by The Fellowship. And thanks to our Isaiah 58 ministry partners, like you, the burden left solely on her shoulders has been lifted.

The friendly and attentive volunteers at Chamah provide Svetlana with proper care, nutrition, and medicine. And now, Maria is able to prepare for her own surgery. She is so grateful knowing that her mother will be well-attended while she spends time in the hospital for the surgery and recuperation.

Maria feels so blessed thanks to caring friends like you! Please help provide care to elderly, sick individuals with no one else to rely on.
