Ruth, an elderly Ukrainian Jew, owns very little. Her most prized possessions are the old black and white photos that sit in her kitchen—the only pictures she has to remember her family, all of whom have passed away.
Both of Ruth's parents were doctors. Following in their footsteps, she went to medical school, and was sent during World War II to work on the front lines. After the war, she enjoyed a career serving others as a doctor. But despite her lifetime of hard work, Ruth now lives in poverty. Her savings are gone and her income now is a pension of just $90 per month. She is also visually and hearing impaired, unable to walk and homebound.
The one bright spot in Ruth's life is the local Hesed center, funded by The Fellowship's Isaiah 58 program. Several times a week, she receives a visit from a Hesed home care worker who helps her bathe, prepare food, and clean. If it were not for this care, there are days when she might not even be able to get out of bed.
You can shine a ray of light into the lives of poor Jews in the FSU like Ruth through a donation to Isaiah 58. Please give today - and may God bless you for your kindness.
