Ela: Smiling Again With the Help of Isaiah 58
Four-year-old Ela, who lives in the former Soviet Union, is a very sick little girl. She is weak and needs a lot of special care. Her mother, Lusya, spends all of her time taking care of Ela and her brother, Kim, who is also disabled and requires constant supervision.
Ela's father is sick and unable to work. The family struggles to survive—their only source of income is Lusya's grandmother's meager government pension, which is barely enough to cover necessities like food and heating.
In desperation, Lusya contacted a local program for needy families funded by
The Fellowship's
Isaiah 58 program. A staff member said she nearly cried when she met the family and saw their living conditions. She immediately offered them monthly aid and promised Lusya that her children would never again have to go to sleep hungry.
Thanks to our
Isaiah 58 partners, Ela and her family now receive food packages, a daily hot meal, and other lifesaving assistance. Lusya notices that little Ela is smiling more and has a newfound confidence. The whole family is deeply grateful to
The Fellowship for giving them hope and for hearing their cries when they had no one to turn to. "We thank all of these wonderful and kind people who care so deeply and passionately about those who go though life's hardships," she said.
You can help impoverished Jewish children in the former Soviet Union receive the care they need through a gift to
Isaiah 58.
Please give today—and know that, in doing so, you have acted according to the biblical call of the prophet Isaiah to "share your food with the hungry… provide the poor wanderer with shelter…" (Isaiah 58:7).
