Giving Care When No One Else Will

Nina is extremely grateful to have caring friends like you who help provide her with a home care worker who not only helps her around the house, but also brings her news of the outside world

For most of her life, 100-year-old Nina spent her time teaching math and physics at a university. A lifetime of inspiring and educating students has kept Nina’s mind sharp. Sadly, though, her body is in decline: she is losing her sight and her hearing, making it difficult for her to leave her apartment.

She lives alone in a two-room apartment in Kazakhstan, in the former Soviet Union. Her home is old and rundown, but she has very little money to pay for renovations. And with no family to help her, it’s difficult for her to keep up with apartment repairs.

Nina’s life hasn’t been easy. She lost her husband very early in life, in 1945, after he caught pneumonia during a military exercise. She raised their son alone, making a life for both of them with her salary. Unfortunately now her son is gone as well, having passed away in 2008.

Unable to leave her home, and with no family to visit her, Nina is extremely grateful to have caring friends like you who help provide her with a home care worker who not only helps her around the house, but also brings her news of the outside world.

And with thanks to your compassionate generosity, The Fellowship also provides Nina with food packages, so that, despite her small pension, Nina always has food to eat.

Stories like this are wonderful to report – but the harsh reality is that there are thousands of deeply impoverished elderly who lack even the most basic cold-weather essentials such as heat, warm blankets, and food.

Today, you can continue making a huge difference for elderly like Nina through your gift to The Fellowship’s Winter Warmth campaign.
