We Must Never Forget the Elderly

Roza, an 80-year-old Holocaust survivor, lies in bed barely able to move. Yet her kind and gentle demeanor permeates the room. Roza, who can no longer care for herself, lives on a ground-floor apartment with her niece in a dilapidated building in a crime-filled neighbourhood in Israel.

“This area was not our first choice,” she admits, “but the rent is cheap, and it’s all we can afford.”

Roza has no children and her husband died years ago. So she completely relies on her niece – who came to Israel with no savings, no profession, and no experience speaking Hebrew.

Many weeks, they cannot afford chicken, fish, and other basic necessities they need to survive. Sadly, this reminds Roza of the similar difficulties she faced during World War II.

Roza was a child when the war started. Her memories of the war are limited, but she shudders when talking about the incessant hunger pains she felt as she nearly starved to death. Even so, Roza survived the war, and she knows she can survive this struggle, too. She has faith that God will watch over her and her niece.

This is why she feels so blessed by The Fellowship’s Guardians of Israel ministry! We deliver food packages that are filled with products Roza picks out from a supermarket catalogue, bringing her a lot of joy and comfort in her old age.

The Fellowship has restored my dignity. You have given me hope in a time when I cannot even stand on my feet,” Roza says. “God bless The Fellowship for all the help and compassion they offer to Israel’s elderly community!”

Please find it in your heart to provide sustaining care and support to the elderly who are suffering and give to our Guardians of Israel ministry today.
