THE DESPERATE CALL CAME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT to Ohr Simcha, our Fellowship-supported boys’ home near Tel Aviv.
It was the local welfare department calling. A four-year-old boy named Chanan had been found on the streets, naked, filthy, and eating out of garbage cans! The caller asked if there was room for the child at the home. "Of course," the director replied, "bring him over at once."
Chanan was the youngest child this Fellowship-sponsored home had ever accepted, and he was in a particularly heart-wrenching situation. Rabbi Eckstein said Ohr Simcha accepts all boys referred to them by the welfare department, even if the necessary funds are not available at the time.
“The Fellowship’s bottom line is rescuing destitute children like Chanan,” added the Rabbi. “We know we are their last hope, so we never turn a child away because of lack of money. We care for each boy who needs us and rely by faith on God to send what is needed at the right time through our caring ministry partners.”
Chanan had no known parents, and might have died on the streets if not for this special place funded by The Fellowship through our Guardians of Israel program. Now Chanan has loving house-parents who feed him, keep him safe at night, and take him to school. He is a beautiful, happy, and smart child who was saved from an unending nightmare because of caring people like you.
This Fellowship youth home is a very special place. Yet it faces tremendous challenges providing life’s daily necessities, education, and a family atmosphere for some 300 needy boys each day. The Fellowship needs your support to rescue and care for many more of these thrown-away children like Chanan.
