This week, soccer fans across the globe train their eyes on the Middle East, where the country of Qatar hosts the World Cup. While Israel’s team will not be competing in the tournament, those who support Israel might like to see the one goal that the Holy Land’s team scored in a World Cup match… way back in 1970!

In a game against Sweden, Israeli star Mordechai Spiegler found the back of the net to lead his team to a tie the only time an Israeli has ever scored in a World Cup. Spiegler, of course, was Israel’s captain when he played, and scored more goals than any Israeli soccer player.
