“It is important that we banish the dark and bring light and warmth to the lives of the elderly in Israel on Hanukkah and throughout the year.”

More than 1,200 lonely elderly in Israel, many of them Holocaust survivors, are receiving personal visits to help them celebrate Hanukkah and brighten their holiday, thanks to the The Fellowship and its tens of millions of supporters worldwide.

The Fellowship is launching a new “Lighting Up in Fellowship” program to provide companionship to lonely elderly Israeli citizens, sending 620 volunteers to their homes to light Hanukkah menorahs and warm these seniors’ holidays.

“Loneliness is one of the hardest challenges for elderly Israelis – sometimes the struggle outweighs the usual daily battle for financial survival,” said The Fellowship’s founder and president, Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein. “It is important that we banish the dark and bring light and warmth to the lives of the elderly in Israel on Hanukkah and throughout the year.”

Every day, The Fellowship assists about 20,000 elderly and Holocaust survivors in Israel by providing food, finances for medications, medical care, winter heating grants, and more each month, amounting to nearly $23 million, annually. The Fellowship supports more than 102,000 elderly in Israel annually.

“We thank our hundreds of volunteers who give of their time for the benefit of this important act of kindness, and we invite all Israelis to join us in our continued efforts,” Eckstein added. “Our goal is to triple the number of volunteers for the benefit of the elderly by the Purim holiday. We must recruit volunteers to help our parents’ generation – because thanks to them, we are here today.” Purim begins next year on February 28.
