Faces of The Fellowship: Netta

Netta

Netta feels so close to The Fellowship that when she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, she told her caseworker before she even told her son.

Netta, 84, lives alone in Kiev in an apartment that she keeps very neat and clean. As a child, Netta lived through the Holocaust. The Nazis caught her family as they were trying to flee Kiev. Fortunately, they were placed in a ghetto rather than a concentration camp, and they managed to survive the war. Even though she had faced such trauma in her childhood, Netta went on to attend college, marry, and become a mother.

Netta’s husband passed away a number of years ago, and her only son lives in Canada. Her son has repeatedly asked her to join him in Canada, but Netta feels she is too old to make the move. Also, in Kiev she has The Fellowship, whose help is keeping her alive.

“How can I move if I’ve got a new family here? The Fellowship is my family!” says Netta.

Netta feels so close to The Fellowship that when she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, she told her caseworker before she even told her son. Netta’s caseworker, Kathy, was at her side immediately and has been with Netta every step of the way, making sure she has the correct medicines and providing emotional support. This help has meant the world to Netta.

The Fellowship is helping Netta battle both poverty and cancer, providing her with a bank card that she uses for food and medicine. This lifesaving assistance is sustaining her, body and soul.

Learn how you can help impoverished people in need, like Netta, receive the lifesaving care they desperately need.
