Project Spotlight: Summer Camps for Israeli Children in Need

When Rabbi Eckstein heard from the Knesset (Israeli parliament) that children in Israel do not have the proper funding for summer camps this year, he knew he needed to help. It was recently announced that The Fellowship will be providing financial aid to these children and their families, so parents can continue to work during the summer months also knowing their children are safe.

“The problem isn’t just that the children won’t have fun during summer vacation,” said Rabbi Eckstein, speaking in the Knesset. “It’s a problem for families and single-mothers who must make a draconian choice between going to work and leaving their children home alone because they need the income. Or to stop working in order to stay at home with the children while no longer being able to financially supporting the children.”

Now, close to 11,000 Israeli children from families in need will receive financial aid so they can attend summer camps this year.

“The Fellowship is involved in places where there’s no government solution or money … It’s our privilege and we’re happy to do it,” said Rabbi Eckstein.
