Faces of The Fellowship: Shaul

Eighty-four-year-old Shaul rarely leaves his apartment. Not only does he have great difficulty walking, he also suffers from hearing impairment and asthma. This widower who made aliyah (immigrated to Israel) from Iraq also struggles to survive on the small social security benefits he receives each month. It is not enough money for food, needed medicine, and heat during the frigid winter months.

This past winter Shaul was one of the 14,000 impoverished elderly in Israel who received blankets and gift cards for heating assistance through our Operation Winter Warmth initiative.

"You should all be blessed for helping the people of Israel,” Shaul says. “Things are difficult for me, but Israel is the best place for the Jewish people and you are making it possible for me to live here. Thank you!”
