Project Spotlight: Yad B’Yad Passover Food Box Distribution

As Yael arrived, people were already lined up outside the warehouse, where tensions ran high…

As part of The Fellowship’s extensive Passover outreach, we are distributing 4,500 food boxes to needy elderly and families in partnership with the Yad B’Yad organization. Without our assistance, these people would not be able to celebrate the Passover holiday with the foods needed for the seder meal. In fact, this holy season would just be a continuation of the ongoing struggle with hunger and poverty.

Earlier this week, The Fellowship’s Yael Eckstein attended the food box distribution. As she arrived, people were already lined up outside the warehouse, where tensions ran high as people jostled for position to make sure they would receive these desperately needed packages.

The large warehouse was bustling with activity as volunteers filled the boxes with meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, matzah, and other food items for the holiday. As the people finally reached the end of the long line and received their boxes, they were greeted by border police who helped carry the heavy boxes outside. Volunteers then drove them home.

The Fellowship has been distributing food boxes through Yad B’Yad for years, and every year it seems the lines get longer and the people more desperate for our help. Yad B’Yad, which means “hand in hand,” helps the most desperate citizens of Israel – Holocaust survivors, single parents, handicapped veterans, lonely elderly, and new immigrants. Without Yad B’Yad, supported by funds from The Fellowship, so many would go hungry.

There is still time to provide food to the needy for this sacred holiday. Please join us in blessing others by giving a gift of food for Passover.
