“There's No Future in Ukraine for Us”

Nine-year-old Kira became upset every time she heard the practice sirens during her school emergency drill in Ukraine. After the war began in 2014, Ukrainian residents had to prepare themselves for the violence taking place in their neighbourhoods.

While these sirens were only for an emergency planning exercise, Kira felt very scared and panicked every time the teachers asked their students to go into the basement for shelter.

Her mother, Edita, worried about her daughter, saying, “The schoolteacher tried to explain her it was an emergency planning exercise, but he could barely calm her down after that.”

After months of living under fear, Edita and her husband, Alexander, decided it was time for the family to find a new home. They figured the time was right because their oldest son had just graduated from university, so moving now wouldn’t interrupt his studies.

The family knew they couldn’t continue living in a country where the government and infrastructure was completely breaking down. “I don’t think moving to another Ukrainian city can resolve our problems. The government doesn’t care about people in Ukraine. It's better to start over from scratch,” says Edita.

This is when they decided to take a Fellowship Freedom Flight to Israel. Thankfully, they have many family members already living in Israel. The family feels so blessed to be making the move with help from The Fellowship!
