Fellowship Staff Celebrate and Volunteer with Pantry Packers in Israel

“We really focus on helping the weak. The weak of Israeli society and the weak among the Jewish people in all countries. We help where there are no other people who help.”

Earlier this month, The Fellowship’s Israel staff gathered at our Pantry Packers program for a Passover celebration. It was an opportunity for the entire staff to get together, to say thank you, and to express appreciation for the work that’s been done for the needy during Passover.

Rabbi Eckstein was in attendance and spoke to the group. “When people thank me for the assistance, I always tell them it’s not from me,” he said. “It’s from the people, our donors, who want to help Israel and the Jewish people and those in distress.”

“We really focus on helping the weak.  The weak of Israeli society and the weak among the Jewish people in all countries. We help where there are no other people who help.  As is written, “In a place where there are no men, strive to be a man” (Ethics of the Fathers Chapter 2, Mishnah 5).  That’s where The Fellowship enters.”

“A question that we’re always asked is: This is the government’s responsibility to help the needy.  Why are you doing it? And I say, ‘Because we have the ability to do it.’ The Fellowship has two options:  either to say, as do others, that it’s the responsibility of the government so the government should do it – to curse the darkness. Or we can see the situation as it is, and we’ll help.”

“It’s a privilege to work in an organization that helps so many people all over the world.  Each of you has the privilege of working with us. Thank you very much.  I’m proud of you. Professionalism together with caring, that’s the trick.”

You can still provide nourishment for Jews during Passover. Please give today.
