A Father’s Day Message from Yael

It is almost Father's Day! As I sit here in the Holy Land, now a mother of three, I can't help but relive and reflect on some of the amazing memories I have had after more than 30 years as your daughter. From "Sunday-Funday" at Six Flags Amusement Park to curling up on your lap as a little kid while you sang songs on the Sabbath, your fatherly presence has always been an integral part of my life.

Despite all the demands on your time, family has always been your top priority. When I was a child, you never missed a school play or you were never so busy that you couldn't attend a birthday party. You raised your three daughters with the values of charity, spirituality, and sensitivity, holy attributes that I am now passing on to my children. And, today, though you do lots of traveling around the world, I never feel like you are very far away. Hardly a day goes by without an optimistic and encouraging phone call from you. Your voice alone brightens my day.I love the savtot (grandmothers) who spend their days reciting Tehillim (psalms) while sitting on park benches, in public buses and inside ancient synagogues.

Although our relationship has changed throughout the years — I’ve gone from being your little baby to having babies myself — our connection has only grown. Because of the support you give me, I feel there is no challenge too big for me to face. I know you are behind me every step of the way and I have no fears of falling, because I know you are always there to catch me. I have the confidence to follow my dreams and my heart because you believe in me.

You were always my role model. And now that I’ve worked with you here in the Holy Land, and have seen firsthand the thousands of people being helped by The Fellowship; seeing that transformed my admiration of you and my appreciation for your lifelong dream. I see now that your dream is being realized: Strengthening the state of Israel, helping Jews in need around the world, and bridging the gap between Christians and Jews.

Your accomplishments, Abba, are many - too many to list here - and yet your children are your greatest pride and joy. Today, I want you to know how much I recognize and appreciate all of your exceptional traits. You are an amazing father, grandfather, and man. You treat every needy and hurting person you come across with respect and care. From you, I have learned the meaning of true kindness and charity. I know that I am a better person because of your influence. I have learned, and continue to learn, more from you than you can ever imagine. My love for you only grows.

So, on this upcoming Father’s Day, feel proud of the father that you have been and know that your children love you without end. You are our best friend and our role model, and will always continue to be.I love how the people of Israel have diverse opinions on almost everything, yet everyone comes together in unity during times of celebration and hardships.
