Dear Friends of The Fellowship,

The situation in Ukraine is spiraling out of control. You’ve seen the pictures on the news: fighting in the streets, burned-out buildings, crowds of protesters facing off against police, and in the midst of this civil unrest is Ukraine’s Jewish community. The chaos has taken the lid off of the ages-old anti-Semitic hatred that is always apparent in this part of the world. And the risk to Jews is increasing.

We’ve been contacted by Jewish leaders from around Ukraine who have told us just how desperate the situation there has become. Many Jewish schools, orphanages, and other institutions are on lockdown, with Jews even afraid to walk outside for fear of becoming victims of anti-Semitic attacks.

It is for this reason The Fellowship operates programs supporting needy Jewish elderly and children in Ukraine, including those who have special needs or disabilities. In emergency situations such as this I am so grateful that our Christian and Jewish friends in Canada are quick to show their deep love for the Jewish people both in prayer and also materially, by providing financial assistance to help Jews in need. It is your steadfast partnership that allows us to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless.

Today, I ask you to pray that some measure of peace and stability will return to Ukraine, and that our efforts to provide elderly Jews and children in need with nourishment, and emergency needs will be successful.

The needs for Jews in this troubled region are still greater than we can provide, and we cannot fill them without your continued faithful help and partnership. Thank you, my friends, for your support.

With prayers for shalom, peace,

Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein
Founder, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews® of Canada
