“I am like a desert owl,
like an owl among the ruins.
I lie awake; I have become
like a bird alone on a roof.”
(Psalm 102:6-7)

The 102nd Psalm, of course, was written in Bible times by a psalmist who it calls “an afflicted person who has grown weak and pours out a lament before the LORD.”

But like so many moments in God’s Word, we can still see the inspiration that was found in His Creation — today. The psalmist, in his loneliness, likened himself to the lonely desert owl, the owls he would have seen in the Holy Land.

And we still see the same owls in the Holy Land — today. There are ten species, including three different desert owls like the one seen here in crags above the Negev Desert.

While God’s creatures we read about in the Bible surely inspired the holy words its writers recorded, let them also inspire us to the truth and goodness found in His Word and in His Creation.
